IRT cars to replace R-62's on #7
converting R-142 to CBTC and add new cars. Approximately 500 cars. See RFP Update January 21, 2012: One C car to be inserted into 7215-7220, number 7921, was delivered to 207 Street Shops by January 2, 2012. the new configuration will be 7216-7217-7218-7219-7921-7220 and will be paired with 5 car set 7211-7215. Video seen 9/10/2013 showed the car as #7899 There will also be two six car and two five car new sets of cars to be delivered by the end of 2012. They are projected to be car numbers 7811-7832. |

The R-110 contract was actually for the research & development for the design. The cars we've been calling the R-110A and R-110B are actually contract R-130 and R-131.
The TA negotiated hard and awarded a split R-142 contract
to Bombardier (680 R-142) & Kawasaki (400 R-142A) for a total of 1080 cars
on 4/29/1997. The total cost for the cars $1.5 Billion was about what was
budgeted for 740 cars! The first cars were scheduled for delivery in February
1999 (5/99 update May for the R142 and Nov for the R-142A cars). It's too late
to get those 'Redbird' pictures! Here is the last one in service.
The R-143 contract was awarded to Kawasaki and the contract increased to 212 cars. They will be equipped with the Communication Based Train Control (CBTC) signal system which will be installed on the L Canarsie - 14th St Line.
