Congratulations, you got 8/8 correct!
The International Year of Astronomy 2009 The vision of the International Year of Astronomy 2009 is to help the citizens of the world rediscover their place in the Universe through the day- and night time sky, and thereby engage a personal sense of wonder and discovery. All humans should realize the impact of astronomy and basic sciences on our daily lives, and understand better how scientific knowledge can contribute to a more equitable and peaceful society.
Order your Galileoscope™ today! Only US $15
The Galileoscope™: An IYA2009 Cornerstone Project The Galileoscope™ is a high-quality, low-cost telescope kit developed for the International Year of Astronomy 2009 by a team of leading astronomers, optical engineers, and science educators. No matter where you live, with this easy-to-assemble, 50-mm (2-inch) diameter, 25- to 50-power achromatic refractor, you can see the celestial wonders that Galileo Galilei first glimpsed 400 years ago and that still delight stargazers today. These include lunar craters and mountains, four moons circling Jupiter, the phases of Venus, Saturn's rings, and countless stars invisible to the unaided eye.
It's a kit that requires NO tools and can be assembled in a few minutes.

You may also donate a Galileoscope™ for only US $12.50 to a random school. When you Give a Galileoscope, no matter how few or how many telescopes you donate, the price is a flat U.S. $12.50 each. That's right: You can donate Galileoscopes at the lowest available price and pay no shipping charges, taxes, or other fees! How can IYA do this? By aggregating the donations. You don't specify who receives your donation, or even which country gets the telescopes. Donations will accumulate throughout IYA2009, and then we'll make bulk shipments of Galileoscopes to a diverse group of underserved recipient organizations throughout the world.

So, for a total of $27.50, you can have one for yourself and donate one to a random school.

Bad Astronomy! The homepage for Bad Astronomy! - Phil Plait.- Webmster
As an astronomer, teacher, lecturer and all-around science junkie, I am exposed to all sorts of people and their ideas about what goes on in the sky around them. I have been delighted to find that most people are very curious about the night (and day!) sky, but unfortunately a lot of misinformation is spread about astronomy. Sometimes this information is just plain silly, but many times it makes just enough sense that people believe it.

The folks who de-planeted Pluto
and made it a dwarf!, Dopey?

The International Astronomical Union (IAU) was founded in 1919. Its mission is to promote and safeguard the science of astronomy in all its aspects through international cooperation. Its individual members are professional astronomers all over the World, at the Ph.D. level or beyond and active in professional research and education in astronomy.

Now, Eris (from the Greek), a personification of strife and discord, has been found to be 4% larger and 30% more massive than Pluto. So it's now considered the 10th largest planet/dwarf planet in the Solar System. Talk about an approriate name!
In June 2008, the IAU defined a new object, Plutoid, which is:

"Celestial bodies in orbit around the Sun at a distance greater than that of Neptune that have sufficient mass for their self-gravity to overcome rigid body forces so that they assume a hydrostatic equilibrium (near-spherical) shape, and that have not cleared the neighborhood around their orbit."

The two known and named Plutoids are Pluto and Eris. It is expected that more Plutoids will be named as science progresses and new discoveries are made, for example, when the New Horizons mission arrives at the Kuiper Belt region in 2015.

So, if this is a computer simulation what is the real universe like?

The Megapenny Project Visualizing huge numbers can be very difficult. The Skeptologists We are The Skeptologists.
We're not willing to just accept stories of the paranormal or supernatural. We want proof. Understanding Science To understand what science is, just look around you. What do you see? The Restaurantby George Becker
"The Restaurant" is a narrative of life in the North Bronx during the 1940's , as viewed by the author. It centers around a restaurant that was owned and operated by his dad at the Woodlawn Subway Station. It also has a lot to say about the neighborhood near the Mosholu Parkway Subway station, where he and his family lived, and a has a few words about the Yankee Stadium. So, whether you are getting this book for yourself or as a gift for someone else, we will be taking a ride on the IRT over Jerome Avenue to a time and place where boys had to wear knickers, and were told that when they grew up they could wear long pants, a place where street games and chalked up streets were the norm.
