* The company names and route assignments are taken from a BusChat message by Bob Sandewicz as compiled from the Greller-Watson Brooklyn Trolley book (1986).
Originally the depots were arranged in alphabetical order then the route numbers were assigned in alphabetical order within a depot. Thus Bergen St was depot 1 and the routes there got the lowest numbers. There were gaps in the route numbers where buses using those numbers. Many of the routes changed depots over the years. The route numbers might not have been changed, causing some numbers to be out of sequence for the depot. Some routes were abandoned before this numbering system was implemented and those routes never got numbers.
