On the dedication day, all of ther operable cars made trips to the end of the line. A few hundred feet before Short Beach, the line goes over a culvert that takes tidal water from the LI Sound under the line. This pair of Brooklyn el cars was called the Culvert Express.

Three shots of the only private subway car ever built. The Mineola was built for August Belmont, one of the financiers of the IRT. The ends of the car had all glass for Belmont's friends to look at the tracks as the train ran through the subway. Legend has it that he could ride from the Belmont Hotel to the Belmont Racetrack without changing trains. The connetction between the IRT and LIRR, if it existed, is at Atlantic Ave.
